ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants will have met the following entry requirements and attended a successful interview to include both verbal and practical elements and provide satisfactory references providing information on behaviour, punctuality and attendance:

Proven successful completion of at least 5 days work experience in a Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing Salon
Pass an ESOL initial assessment at interview
Have good manual dexterity skills (i.e. an ability to work with their hands);
Achievement of the required Level for the Initial Assessment in Numeracy Entry Level 3.

PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This course is suitable for students wanting to develop the foundation skills needed for a successful career in Beauty Therapy. The course will involve both practical and theory classes. During the practical lessons students will be working in a realistic salon environment and will be expected to carry out beauty treatments on each other and clients once they have reached a certain level of ability. As clients for all courses cannot be guaranteed, students may need to provide their own clients. Students may be required to carry out work experience activities during their studies.

This course will support your language needs and enable you to achieve a certificate in literacy.

In addition to studying ESOL the subjects covered will include:

Assist with Facial Treatments;
Assist with Nail Treatments on the Hands;
Assist with Salon Reception;
Health and Safety; and
Prepare and Maintain the Beauty Therapy Work Area.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of this course students may apply to progress onto NVQ Level 2 in Beauty Therapy at Croydon College or other institutions. Progression is not automatic. Applicants will need to have met the following criteria to be considered for progression.

Achieve keyskills qualification with proven 80% attendance over 2 terms and commitment to studies.
Successful completion of a full Level 1 Beauty Therapy qualification within the 18 week programme.
Successful completion of ESOL course and literacy exam.
Proven minimum attendance of 80% over 2 terms.
Achievement of the required Level of Initial Assessment at Entry 3 for Numeracy and Literacy 1.
No record of disciplinary action. However, if so, applicants must have demonstrated a minimum of eight weeks continual improvement and any targets must have been met.
Completed a successful progression interview.
Demonstrated, proven, consistent levels of professionalism and appropriate levels of communication and interpersonal skills.
Successful proven completion of 4 weeks on programme work experience in a beauty therapy salon with a positive reference.
