About this course
You will need 4 GCSEs at grade E or above, with Maths and English at Entry Level 3 or above. You must also demonstrate a willingness to learn and enjoy taking part in sporting activities.

Is the course for me?
This course is suitable for you if you wish to develop your practical and theory sports skills. It is a qualification that will give you the basic skills to plan and lead sporting activities, with an emphasis on health & safety. You will also take level 1 Key skills.
What will I learn?
While on this course you will study six units that will involve a mixture of practical and theory lessons. You will learn skills to enable you to plan, deliver and run sporting activities. The six units you will study:
C11 - Help to set up, take down and store equipment
C21 Help to maintain facilities areas
D15 Help to give a good level of service to participants and customers
D41 Help to plan and prepare practical sessions
D42 Lead an activity within a session
C35 Deal with accidents and emergencies.
You may also have the opportunity to take additional qualifications such as Junior Sports Leaders Award (JSL), Level 1 coaching qualifications in either Football, Rugby League, Basketball, Emergency First Aid, Rugby League Refereeing and Child Protection.
All students have the opportunity to go on organised residential visit at a cost of approx £100 and be prepared to attend other curriculum relevant visits where appropriate. Students are required to purchase College sports kit for use in practical sessions. Students are also required to undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check to ensure suitability for working with minors.
You will be required to purchase course text books and Collegiate sports kit at an approximate cost of £81 (tracksuit, polo shirt, shorts). This will be worn for all practical and theory lessons.
How will I be assessed?
There are no exams, You will be assessed in various ways including; Portfolio evidence, leaflets and fact sheet production, practical coaching and leading of sessions.
What can I do after the course?
You will have the opportunity to progress onto NVQ in Sport, Recreation and Allied Occupations: Activity Leadership (Level 2) or BTEC First Diploma in Sport (Level 2). Either of these courses are your next step on a pathway to university. Students will also be able to seek employment in the industry.
