- how to run outdoor sessions with groups of different ages.

What will I be learning?

This course is for you if you want to develop the practical skills needed to begin a career in the outdoor industry.

You will learn:
- how to plan, deliver & evaluate practical sessions in a range of outdoor activities.
- health & safety, including first aid and how to deal with emergencies in a variety of outdoor environments.

- how to deal with a range of land and water based equipment, and how to work successfully in a team.

You will also have the opportunity to learn how to run outdoor sessions with groups of different ages, go on trips and expeditions.

How will I learn?

On this course you must show that you can do the job required. Therefore, the course is most suitable for those who have good practical abilities. You must demonstrate your ability to plan, deliver & evaluate practical sessions in a variety of outdoor activities. You will also show your competence in health & safety, first aid & teamwork. You will gather evidence from your practical activities and compile a portfolio. You will be assessed over the period of the course on your ability to perform a range of tasks and your knowledge of the various areas. Your tutors & assessors will give you feedback on how you are progressing throughout the course.

What else might I want to know?

The selection process is as follows:
You must apply to the college and attend an interview.
You must attend a Welcome Day organised by the college.
We must be satisfied you have the ability to complete this course. Your selection for this course does not depend on your GCSE grades, however, your chances of progression to other courses may require you to have achieved a certain level of grades.

What can I do afterwards?

Possible career paths also open to you would include: outdoor coaching, working as an assistant instructor in an outdoor centre.
