Course Description
This course is designed to prepare you for careers in aviation with key focus on airport ground operations in year one and air cabin crew in year two. This course can be used as a stepping stone to our level 3 programmes.

Delivered over two years, you will study at The Aviation Academy in high tech, professional standard training rooms with top of the range furnishings, interactive learning technology equipment, including mock airline cabin and a teaching team of industry specialists. There is also the option to study at the Centre for Travel and Tourism Studies at Skipton with regular visits to The Aviation Academy facilities.

You may have the option to study for this qualification in one year, if aged 17 years or over at enrolment. If you are aged 16 years at enrolment, the course is a two year programme. A number of airport and airline organisations recruit directly from this course and interviews are facilitated during the course to enable access to jobs on completion of your studies.

You will achieve two City and Guilds First Diplomas each equivalent to four GCSEs grade A-C.

Additional Qualifications In addition you will develop work skills through a portfolio of additional qualifications, for example, BTEC Certificate in Work Skills, Key Skills Communication and Public Speaking (English Speaking Board).

Course Length and Study Pattern
The course is a two year, full time course.

Career Progression
This is a two year progression course for those joining The Aviation Academy at 16 years of age.
Learners who achieve a distinction profile at the end of year one may be transferred to a level 3 programme, e.g. BTEC National Certificate/Award in Aviation operations.

Assessment
The course is assessed by an assignment programme for each unit. Evidence for assessment is varied and reflects industry standards. You will produce a variety of written work, reports, information packs, short answer tests and portfolios. You will participate in practical assessment activities, including presentations, role plays and field trips, e.g. Thomsonfly to undertake onboard training.

Trips and Enrichment Activities
You will take part in an overseas trip to study aviation operations and your programme will be underpinned by visits and speakers from current industry organisations. Visits may include Dublin and Thomsonfly to take part in onboard training.
