Performance Studies

Because it is an exciting and dynamic exploration of the three art forms of music, dance and drama. It is a multi-disciplinary course, developing qualities of imagination, sensitivity and artistic knowledge and understanding. It is essential for those who wish to go on to specialist training and ideal for those with performance flair who wish to broaden their curriculum.

Key Features of Performance Studies at Hills Road:
· Studying the work of choreographers, composers and playwrights.
· Studying significant styles and genres and the social, cultural and historical contexts in which the performing arts operate.
· Developing your practical performance skills in the discrete art forms of dance, drama and music and the ability to make links across the art forms.
· Developing approaches to devising performance material for a given time, situation and audience.
Course Outline - (Awarding body: OCR) AS Level Units
Unit 1: Creating performance (practical exam) 70%.
Unit 2: Performance contexts 1 (written paper 2hrs) 30%.
Advanced (A2) Level Units
Unit 3: Performance Contexts 1 (written paper 2 hrs) 30%.
Unit 4: Performance Project (practical exam) 70%.

Classes are taught in our sprung-floored dance hall, and in our superbly equipped theatre and recital rooms. Students will also have access to our new music technology suites and well-stocked performance library.
