About this course

Formal qualifications such as GCSE Drama or Expressive Arts are useful but not essential. Some experience of taking part in productions and confidence and enthusiasm for practical activities and group work will provide a good starting point.

Performing Arts BTEC National Award
This practical course is ideal if you have an interest in the acting side of Performing Arts, and can be studied alongside a range of other courses. The qualification is the equivalent of one A level.

You will develop your individual knowledge and acting skills, through workshops, devising and developing performances and working from texts to develop full productions. Group projects are a key part of the course, and you will learn about up to date working practice within the Performing Arts. Classes will take place in a specialist performance space.

You will have the opportunity to perform in a range of projects, from Touring Shows, Film and Radio Acting and full-scale Theatre Productions, and take part in theatre trips and professional workshops.

What will I study?
All students take the two core units:

How will I be assessed?
The course is primarily a practical one. Continuous assessment of projects and assignments will take place throughout the course, including performances, presentations, practical or written work. Your Final Major Project will be externally assessed.

What can I do next?
If you want to specialise you can progress to a Degree or Higher National Diploma in Acting, Drama or Performing Arts. Combined with other qualifications, the National Award in Performing Arts can also help you to progress onto other courses in Higher Education, and develops valuable skills in terms of self confidence, group work and communication.
