Course Summary:
The 2-year National Diploma in Performing Arts at Nescot College is a full-time practical course which is an excellent way to prepare yourself for future work in the performing arts and supporting industries. If you enjoy performing and developing your creative ideas through performance this course is ideal for you. You will learn about acting, singing, dance and drama. You develop your skills through your performances in exciting practical assignments. You will also develop your skills in devising and writing for performance.

Course Details:
This course will enable you to develop skills in a broad range of aspects of the performing arts. You will be involved in a number of productions from street theatre and musicals to straight plays, as well as various show cases. You have to successfully complete 18 units. You will also study key skills communication (English). Examples of units studied are, Performing arts in context, Devising, Acting, Dance and Singing.

Career Progression:
You may want to progress to higher education in a specialist BA (Hons) or a BTEC Higher National programme in Performing Arts at Nescot or in a University or College of Higher Education. Alternatively you may progress into jobs in the Performing Arts in areas such as undertaking session work for musicians, band work, dancing contracts on cruise ships and in clubs, entertainment staff at holiday camps, front of house, box office and marketing work in local theatres.

Fees:
Equipment: Students are required to wear Nescot performing arts standard uniform which includes black t-shirt,sweat top, joggers/leggings and jazz shoes. The fee for this uniform is approximately 40 and can be ordered at Nescot during enrolment.

Visits: Autumn and Spring term visits will be arranged and will cost in total for the year between 50 - 100.


Requirement
You will normally need to have at least one of the following: 4 GCSE passes at grade C or above in English and preferably in Dance, Drama or Music Merit grade at First Diploma Performing Arts or equivalent. Some performance experience and be able to demonstrate some technical skill in one of the performance areas. When you have applied for the course you will be called to participate in a selection day. You will be asked to take part in three short workshops (Dance, Drama and Music), and prepare a one minute audition piece. We will be looking for you to show talent and some skill in your chosen discipline and enthusiasm for the other areas, but primarily a willingness to work positively with others.
