Course Description
The diplomas are designed to prepare people to enter the construction industry in their chosen craft. They have been designed to be progressive, building on skills and knowledge from level to level. The core includes health and safety, building methods and construction technology. The new diplomas cover a wider breadth of skill, knowledge and understanding, covering planning, estimating and new methods of construction.
Course Content
You will study theory and practical sessions in:
- Carrying Out Safe Working Practices - Learning Basic Site Safety
- Store Materials and Equipment - learn the best ways to load and unload materials correctly, includes plasterboards and bagged materials
- Working Relations - liaising with other trades, work procedures such as communicating with customers and suppliers when ordering materials
- Preparing Materials for Plastering - mixing various materials such as sand and cement.Looking at different mixing equipment including mixers/transformers
- Prepare Backgrounds - preparing timber backgrounds, boards etc ready for plaster, internal and external
- Cutting Components - cutting plasterboard to the correct dimensions/angles for the job includes areas such as windows and ceilings
Course Length and Study Pattern
You will be expected to attend college for 2.5 days a week for 1 year.

Assessment
You will be assessed throughout your course on your knowledge and your practical ability. Your tutor will assess your practical skills in the workshop through a series of practical assignments. Your knowledge is assessed in theory sessions and online multi-choice test. Throughout your course you will also produce a portfolio of your completed work.
