Course Description: This programme has been developed to meet the needs of students interested in a career within the Catering and Hospitality Industry. It will allow them to develop the skills and knowledge required to progress into or within employment and/or continue their study in the vocational area. Food Preparation and Cooking, Core Units:
- Maintaining a Safe and Secure Working Environment
- Contribute to Effective Team Work
- Maintain Food Safety when Storing, Preparing and Cooking Food
Optional units:
- Prepare and Cook Fish for Basic Dishes
- Prepare Meat and Poultry for Basic Dishes
- Prepare Vegetables for Basic Dishes
- Cook and Finish Basic Vegetable Dishes
- Prepare and Cook Bread and Dough Products
Food Service, Core Unit:
- Maintain Food Safety when Storing Holding and Serving Food
Optional units:
- Maintain and Deal with Payments
- Dealing with Customers
- Prepare Counter for Take away Service
- Provide a Take away Service
- Provide a Counter Service
BTEC Award Customer Service Level 1 - This award covers the principles and benefits of good customer service in Catering and Hospitality, how to adapt customer needs to meet differing customer needs and customer service skills in a range of catering situations e.g. complaint handling and selling skills.
Entry requirements: 2 GCSE passes grades D or above. All applicants will need to attend a formal interview at the college.
Progression/Career Opportunities: On completion of this qualification students may consider progressing onto a higher level qualification at Level 2 in a vocational area. Alternatively, successful students may seek employment in a variety of sectors related to Hospitality and Catering industry.
