Course Description
A two-year, in-service, part-time programme, the programme includes lectures, workshops, tutorials and lesson observations. Assessment strategies include: assingments, reports, presentations, evaluative and reflective accounts, portfolio of evidence of teaching practice.

Course Structure
A total of eight level six credited modules will be covered over the years of the programme. The credit ratings are shown below:

Year One
Planning to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector 15

Theories and Principles of the Learning and Teaching 15

Developing Specialist Skills (stage 1 ) 15
Assessment for Learning 15

Year two
Continuing Personal and Professional Development 15
Wider Professional Practice 15
Developing Specialist Professional Skills (stage 2) 15
Curriculum Development for Inclusive Practice 15

Within these module core competencies ILT, Language,Literacy and numeracy will be addressed.

Each applicant must have access to a mentor in the workplace who can offer support during the qualification.
Lesson Observations
Three lesson observations will be undertaken by a course

tutor and two by your mentor or a subject specialist in your area of teaching.

  • A first degree or equivalent, from a recognised university, usually in the subject specialist field.

Applicants will need to demonstrate that they carry out the duties associated with a Full Teacher role

The Course
The full teacher role is performed by someone who:

  • Uses materials they have designed and evaluated
  • Teaches across a range of levels, subjects and learner types
  • Teaches across or contributes to a range of programmes of varying lengths


Programme/Course Progression

A full range of higher degree level courses such as Master's qualifications in Educational Studies. Previous students have progressed to develop and deliver a wide range of higher level courses.

Programme/Course Career Prospects

Career opportunities are varied. Students may progress to become lecturers in Further Education colleges, teaching students on programmes such form NVQ, HND to GCSEs, A Levels, Vocational courses, access courses, skills for life and working with students with learning difficulties. Other students may wish to become lecturers in the post-compulsory education and training sector, including Higher Education, adult education, Voluntary and community training organisations.

All fees are per academic year and are the standard charges which may be subject to changes without notice. Standard fees apply to students who have been resident in the UK/EU for at least 3 years. Please note some coures may have addittional costs for materials, exams and registration fees in addition to standard course fees.
