About this course
Entry requirements are 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above including English or a BTEC First Diploma at Merit grade. If you are over 19 you may be admitted at the discretion of the course team without some of the above formal qualifications. You should also be keen on taking part in all sports and be prepared to undertake a variety of sporting and fitness activities - including outdoor activities.

Qualification gained: BTEC National Diploma in Public Services, equivalent to 3 'A' Levels
Course Content: The course is structured into modular units. You will study 18 units from the following list over the two years: Leadership, Uniformed Services Employment, Physical Preparation for the Uniformed Services, Law and the Legal System, Human Behaviour, Citizenship and Contemporary Issues, Diversity and the Public Services, Understanding the Public Sector, International Perspectives, the Media and the Public Services, Health and fitness, Understanding Discipline, Teamwork in the Public Services, Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions, Criminology, Democratic Processes, Signals and Communication Systems. Custodial Care, Government Policies and Police Powers.
Work Experience: You do not need to be in relevant work to complete this course.
Course Assessment: You will be required to submit a number of assignments throughout the course, which will contribute to each module. Assignments will vary widely in their style and include reports, projects, presentations, practical work, oral work and time-constrained assignments.
Progression: Successful completion of the BTEC National Diploma in Public Services gives you several routes for progression: Higher National Diploma in Public Services, Degrees in Public Services, Public Administration, Policing and Criminology, or you can seek employment within the forces such as: Armed forces - Royal Marines, Royal Navy, Air force, Army, Military Police, Emergency Services - fire Service, Police, Prison Service and Security.
Homework: You will be expected to spend at least 8-10 hours per week outside of class time on homework.
Additional Costs: There will be a number of trips over the two years costing around 200.

- Part Time Course Fee Relate to Year 1 course fees only. Two year course fees will have an additional course fee for the second year; these fees are subject to confirmation annually.
