Science (Single Award) Human Physiology and Health GCSE
This course is aimed at providing you with a grade C in Science and will build on the biological science you studied at School. You will look at how humans function and their place within the living world. The course also looks at the human body in healthy and diseased states and how health can be improved.

What will I study?
This is a very hands on subject and you will take part in regular practical work. There will also be opportunities for doing fieldwork out of College. Your study will not involve the killing of animals solely for practical investigation, but will involve some dissection of biological material.

There are three main themes of study: Human relationships and the living world, which looks at issues such as pollution and health; the workings of the human body and reproduction and development.

How will I be assessed?
A 2 hour written exam at the end of the year, and practical work where students plan and carry out an investigation and produce a report. Part of the coursework includes a written essay on a current scientific topic based on research.

What can I do next?
Students use this qualification as a preparation for further study, including AS Biology and Applied Science courses. It is also an ideal course for students interested in going in to health and care related courses and careers, sports related courses and careers in teaching.
