Course content
The Advanced Diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels and prepares students to work in the Health and Social Care sector and gain the qualification to progress to university. Students attend a variety of different work placements in the Health and Social Care sector during the course.
The diploma consists of the following units:
Unit 1: The Sectors in Context. This unit covers the different types of support and services both locally and nationally and some of the laws that relate to this. It also helps you develop the personal skills and qualities that are required for employment.
Unit 2: Principles and Values in Practice. You will investigate how to recognise and deal with discrimination and how the laws can protect people.
Unit 3: Partnership Working. This unit is about working with other others and the benefits of and barriers to working in partnership with other professionals.
Unit 4: Communication and Information Sharing. You will investigate the ways of communicating with others and the difficulties that can prevent good communication.
Unit 5: Personal and Professional Development in the Work Environment. This unit is linked to the work experience and is about preparation for employment.
Unit 6: Safeguarding and Protecting Individuals and Society
You will discover how to keep a workplace safe and how to cope with conflict and recognise abuse.

How Will I Be Assessed?
You will be set assignments, projects and cases studies by the college to cover most of the units; units 1 and 2 will be externally set. There is an exam for one of the units.

What Could I Do Next?
You can apply for Higher Education for a variety of health and social care related degrees such as nursing. There are further training opportunities in the NHS or you could find employment in the Health and Social care sector.
Any Special Expenses
Students will need to have a CRB before going on placement. This will incur extra expense.
