This course is designed for people who are interested in studying social groups and the impact of society upon those social groups.
What will I be learning?
Unit 1 looks at the family and how it has evolved historically. It also looks at contemporary social issues facing modern day families.
Unit 2 looks at the education system and the effect of social groups on achievement. It also considers legislation that affects education. It also considers research methods with particular focus of education.
How will I learn?
You will learn by a mixture of presentations, group discussions and individual research. You will complete regular class tests and homework.
A large range of resources are used in lessons, including the internet, media articles and books.
What else might I want to know?
You will required to purchase a course textbook within two weeks and be prepared to watch the news and current affairs programmes.
What can I do afterwards?
After successfully completing the AS Sociology course with a grade C, you could progress to A2 Sociology. Sociology is useful for social services, youth and protection work.
