About this course

Applicants are required to have a minimum of five GCSE's at Grade C or above, (Mathematics, English and Science desirable). All students will be interviewed and must demonstrate a positive attitude and commitment to the course.

Introduction
As sport becomes more professional and with the introduction of the English Institute for Sport (EIS) there is more focus than ever before on elite sports performance. This course provides an insight into the major disciplines within sports sciences and focuses on how these disciplines can help improve the performance of athletes.

Description
The course focuses on a number of disciplines with particular emphasis on the science of sport. The course covers physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of sport. It comprises of a variety of modules including: Anatomy and Physiology, Sport Research, Social Aspects, Fitness Testing, Sport Psychology, Principles of Coaching and Exercise Physiology.

Duration
Two years in total.

Method of Study
You will study through a series of lectures and seminars. Application through practical sessions will also be used in selected modules. In addition, you will also study Key Skills in Communication, Application of Number and IT and be assessed in your ability to work as a member of a team.

Progression
On successful completion of the course you may be able to progress onto the 2nd year of the BTEC National Sport & Science programme. Alternatively, you may wish to transfer onto a vocational course, or you can look forward to a career in the sports and leisure industry. This qualification also enables students to apply for Higher Education courses.
