The sport and leisure sector is an exciting and expanding industry that offers a diverse range of opportunities in Further/ Higher education, training and employment. At City College we aim to provide a range of sports courses that can start you on the path to a successful career in sport.
Studying sport at City College will give you the chance to learn in a practical environment and will prepare you for further education or employment.
The BTEC National Award course is a one year course in which 6 units are studied, with the option of a second year of study upon completion.
It is a vocational course which combines theory and practical methods of learning in a range of different units, including The Body in Sport, Training and Fitness, Sports Coaching and Exercise, Health & Lifestyle.
The course is assessed by work produced throughout the year by the students, made up of a mixture of written and practical assignments.
The National Award qualification (6 units) is equivalent to 1 A-Level. If students opt for a second year of study (6 more units), they will attain a National Certificate in Sport (equivalent to 2 A-Levels)

Our students benefit from fantastic outdoor and indoor facilities including full-size, all weather and grass pitches, an indoor sports hall, dance studio and gym.

Our highly skilled and motivated staff have a wealth of knowledge and experience in sport and have excellent links with local employers such as with Brighton and Hove FC and Sussex County Cricket Club.
Luke Hampton
Team Leader
Luke is Team Leader for Sport at City College and is a graduate of Sport and
Exercise Science from Loughborough University. He also works part-time for the FA as a Coach Educator and is the Sports Masseur at Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.
Charlie Oatway
Head Coach
With over 350 professional league appearances as a player, former Albion captain Charlie Oatway now works for Albion in the Community. With such a wealth of playing and coaching experience, together with his lively and dynamic personality, students will experience a unique and enjoyable programme.
Assessment: Assessment is through coursework assignments.

Progression and links:
After successfully completing this course you may wish to progress onto the BTEC National Diploma.
The BTEC National Diploma will give you the skills and confidence to apply for university. The National Diploma is worth between 120 360 UCAS points. There are multitudes of coaching qualifications that specialise in specific courses that you may wish to take.
A qualification in Sport can open up a whole host of doors to a future career. These could include Coaching, Teaching, Gym Instructor and Physiotherapist to name but a few.
With 2012 just around the corner, now is the time to get qualified in this huge industry.
