Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs grade C or above (including grade C in Science) or a Pass in the BTEC First Diploma with GCSE (grade C) in Science or a Merit/Distinction BTEC First Diploma.

Course content
Eighteen units covering the following: the Body in Action, Health and Safety, Talent Identification, Sports Coaching, Exercise Health and Lifestyle, Analysis of Sports Performance, Working with Children, Fitness Testing, Sports Nutrition, Rules Regulations and Officiating, Technical and Tactical Skills, Training and Fitness, Organising Events, Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise, Sport and Society, Sports Injuries.
In addition you will study Community Sports Leader and Higher Sports Leader Awards and have the opportunity to take additional coaching courses.
Each unit is related to the sporting interests of the group wherever possible and adapted to be as practical as the course allows. It is advisable to have a strong scientific interest and an interest in a variety of sports and improving personal fitness levels.

How Will I Be Assessed?
Assessment is completed across the two years in assignment work. Each unit has outcomes you must cover in order to pass. Grading is done on a Pass, Merit and Distinction basis. Assessment will come in many different forms: presentations, essay writing, research projects, coaching ability, major tournament running and poster campaigns. Each assignment is marked by your tutor and the grade verified internally by a second tutor. There are no examinations.

This course provides opportunity for a host of additional sporting experiences including:
One week windsurfing and sailing trip
2 day walking expedition
Various coaching awards
First Aid award
Other trips and visits
Special sports science clothing will also be required.
The approximate total cost is 200.00, 100 of which will be payable at enrolment. A letter detailing costs will be provided for students offered places.
