Course Description:
This course is suitable if you have a strong interest in sport from a science-based perspective.

Over two years the course will cover:

Year 1

• Sports Coaching
• Anatomy
• Fitness Testing
• Nutrition
• Research Methods
• Sports Massage
• Exercise Physiology
• Psychology.

Year 2

• Research Project in Sport
• Biomechanics
• Sports Injuries
• Practical Individual Sport
• Practical Team Sport
• Sport in Society
• Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise
• Exercise for Specific Groups
• Training and Fitness for Sports.

You may also have the opportunity to gain your National Pool Lifeguard qualification, Key Skills, one day First Aid Appointed-Person Certificate, HSLA Level 3 or valuable coaching experience. Other day trips are offered throughout the year.

Assessment:
Continuous assessment throughout the course. Assignment and theoretical based with some practical assessments.

Next Steps:
Fitness Instructor Award, Sports Therapy Foundation Degree, Higher Education or employment.

Duration: 2 years

Entry Requirements:
Four GCSEs at grade C or above, ideally including English, Maths or Science and ideally PE or an Edexcel First Diploma. Applications are also welcomed from mature students without the requisite qualifications, but with a successful reference from your previous educational/work establishment. All applicants must attend an interview, complete an initial assessment, attend a taster session and complete a workbook prior to being offered a place on the course. A successful reference from a previous educational/work establishment is also required.
