Summary
A programme of study in Sport Coaching and Development which is intellectually challenging and enables students to develop a range of skills and techniques, personal qualities and attitudes essential for career development in a sport and exercise specific employment. The course provides an education in sport and exercise studies that forms a basis for progression to graduate and post-graduate studies.
Qualifications
A National Diploma in Sport Coaching and Development. Within this course there is an opportunity to take a National Certificate or National Award if this is more appropriate for the student.
Progression Routes
Students may progress to Higher Education courses including FdSc Sport, Health and Exercise at West Suffolk College, or employment in sports development, coaching, and leisure centre employment.
Modules
Student modules will be required to complete the following: CORE UNITS: The Body in Action, Health and Safety in Sport, Training and Fitness for Sport, Sports Coaching, Sports Development, Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Practical Team Sport. SPECIALIST UNITS: Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Sports Nutrition, Sport and Society, Leadership in Sport, Psychology for Sports Performance, Exercise for Specific Groups, Rules Regulations and Officiating in Sport, Organising Sports Events, Working With Children, Sport as a Business, Work-based Experience in Sport. ADDITIONAL STUDIES: Students will also be able to complete the Community Sports Leadership Award (C.S.L.A) and YMCA Fitness Instructors course.
