Textiles & Fashion Foundation Degree
This new course provides the opportunity to deveop knowledge and technical skills in textiles and fashion. Students will be supported int he development of a portfolio of creative work and may choose to specialise in either textiles oand/or fashion in the second year of the course. The course provides potential for personal development, further study or careers in fashion and textiles.

Course Content:

Subjects studied include:

Drawing and surface pattern

Textile techniques and concepts

: printed constructed and embroidered techniques

Fashion techniques and concepts

: pattern cutting and garment making

Computer aided design

Professional studies

Fashion and textile design

Fashion and textile realisation

Critical studies

Exhibiting work and portfolio development

Industry links through-out the course, a short work-based learning placement between years one and two. Students will be supported through this process.

Entry Requirements:
Applicants should typically have one of the following:

• A BTEC National Diploma in a relevant subject or equivalent level 3 qualification such as an A level programme including at least one art based subject
.
• A Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art
& Design
• Mature applicatnts (those over 21 years of age at the start of the course) are welcome to apply and should have a suitable portfolio of creative wiork or relevant prior experience
.

Entry Process:
All applicants will be invited to an interview and will be asked to show a portfolio of appropriate creative work.

Assessment:
Assessment will be continual through ongoing assignments; coursework; work-based learning; presentation and exhibition work.

Progression Routes:
BA (Hons) Degree courses in Textiles and/or Fashion (one-year top-up)

Career Options:
Textile Designer, Fashion Designer; textile-artist maker; textile conservationist; fashion or textile educator; fashion buyer; fashion retailer; pattern cutter; stylist; colourist; trend prediction, dressmaker; self-employed freelance designer.
