Course Content
ALL STUDENTS STUDYING COURSES WITHIN TRAVEL AND TOURISM AT SWANSEA COLLEGE WILL FOLLOW THE LEISURE MANAGEMENT ACADEMY PROGRAMME.
This course prepares students with the skills and knowledge necessary for progression into the travel and tourism industry or Higher Education in Travel and Tourism Management.
The Diploma has 18 units including:

The UK as a destination
Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
Marketing Travel and Tourism Products and Services
Preparing for Employment in the Travel and Tourism Industry
The European Travel Market
Long-haul Travel Destinations
Retail and Business Travel Operations
Tour Operations
Roles and Responsibilities of Holiday Representatives
Passenger Transport Issues for the Travel and Tourism Industry
Events, Conferences and Exhibitions
The Appeal and Importance of UK Visitor Attractions
Entertainment for holidaymakers
Residential Study Visit
Working with Children in Holiday Play Settings
Current issues in Travel and Tourism
Advanced level Welsh Baccalaureate and a language are also studied as part of this programme.
Teaching/Assessment
The Tourism Academy aims to bring together strands of study to meet the needs of business, education and students.
The strands of study include:
A mix of academic and vocational qualifications;
Help with job skills leading to a skills passport;
Extra support including visits and conferences to increase your industy knowledge;
5-8 weeks of related full time work experience.


Four GCSE subjects at Grade C or above or a pass at a BTEC First Diploma in a related subject.
A sensible and responsible attitude with a special interest in Travel and Tourism are essential as well as the ability to deal with people and work with others.

Additional Information
Students on this course will be charged for a Criminal Records Bureau [CRB] check. The current cost is £36. Students can apply to the Financial Contingency Fund [FCF] to cover the cost of a CRB check.
Costs include a complusory residential in Year 2, trips and visits organised in relation to the course and uniform [approx costs = Year 1 £100, Year 2 £350.]
