Course Content
This course prepares students for entry and a career within a range of public services such as the Army, Navy, RAC, Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service or HM Customs and Excise.
Learners undertake 18 study units which include:
Theory based units:

• Public Services Employment;
• Government, Policies and the Public Services;
• Citizenship, Contemporary Society and the Public Services;
• Crime and its Effects on Society;
• Diversity in the Public Services;
• International Perspectives;
• Understanding Behaviour;
• Management of Major Issues.

Outdoor Education units:

• Outdoor and Adventurous Expeditions;
• Land Based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities;
• Water Based Outdoor and Adventurous Activities;
• Alternative Pursuits.

Physical Health and Fitness units:

• Physical Preparation and Fitness;
• Fitness Testing.

Teamwork and Communication units:

• Team Leadership in the Uniformed Public Services;
• Team Development in Public Services;
• Command and Control;
• Understanding Discipline.

Progression
The BTEC National Diploma in Public Services is valued by employers and Higher Education providers and there are several alternative routes for progression.
Employment opportunties include - the armed services; the fire service; the police; security.
