Course Description:
Course content:
The Edexcel National Diploma consists of 18 units to be completed over two years and within the first year, six of these units will comprise the National Award programme. You will undertake the following mandatory units and complete with a range of specialist units:

  • Operation of Vehicle Systems
  • Vehicle Fault Diagnosis and Rectification
  • Vehicle Technology Project
  • Motor Sport Workshop Practices.

In order to progress to year two of the course, it is expected that you will successfully gain the National Award. This course is based around classroom theory work, with practical work in a specialist workshop. Health and safety will be a priority, with a focus on teamwork, problem solving and communication. The course is designed for individuals who are dedicated to gaining a career in motorsport and some learning will take place outside 09:00-17:00 hours, so you should be prepared for this. There will also be Key Skills and enrichment sessions to extend your learning.

Assessment:
This is assignment based and carried out throughout the year. There will also be an examined component to test your understanding of the course content.

Next steps:
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be eligible to progress to an HND, Foundation Degree or Degree or to seek employment in the performance engineering sector.
