What are the entry requirements? Students 16-19 should normally have at least one of the following: - a BTEC First Certificate of Diploma in a related subject - an Intermediate GNVQ in a related subject - at least four GCSEs at grades A* - C - appropriate work experience Mature students may be considered without formal Qualifications at the discretion of the faculty.

Course Content
This course is suitable for anyone interested in sport performance, coaching and sport development. The national diploma provides an excellent progression route to Higher level qualifications such as Degrees/Higher NDs. Careers related to Sport & Physical Education include Professional Sports, Fitness Centre Manager, Leisure Services Manager, Outdoor Pursuits/Adventure Instructor, Sports Administrator, Sports Coach/Instructor, Sports Development Officer & PE Teacher/Lecturer. Other careers where the study of sport would be useful could include Emergency Services, Armed Services, Sports Journal

The course comprises of 18 units, four common/core units and 14 specialist units. Common/core units: Sport in society - Ethics and Values in Sport The Reflective Practitioner - Health and Safety in Sport The unit contributes towards the externally assessed Integrated Vocational Assignment IVA410 Specialist Units Body in Action - Nutrition and Weight Management - Fitness Testing - Training and fitness - Sports Massage - Principles of Coaching - Working with Children - Sports Development - Practical Sports (Individual) - Special Populations 4 further specialist units - Psychology for Sport Performance - Voluntary Sports Clubs - Work Experience - Practical Sports Study (team)

The course is continuously assessed and will include assignments, practical work and end of unit tests.
