Course Content

This course provides an introduction to the hospitality industry for those with little or no experience of this growth area. Delivery and assessment takes place on a full time basis at college.

Course Features

At the same time as studying for their NVQ candidates will follow a programme of basic or key skills.

Practical activities form a large part of the course and the college's training restaurants and kitchen provide the environment for this.

Student's have to work on a rota basis to cover evening sessions at the training restaurant.

All students progressing to the next level follow a five week placement at the end of the third term. This placement is usually residential and unpaid.

All learners have to purchase uniform and knife set which will cost approximately #270.00
Career Prospects and Progression

Successful candidates have the opportunity to progress to level 2 NVQ's in hospitality or enter employment at an assistant's level.

Maintain a safe hygienic and secure working environment Contribute to effective team work Maintain Customer Care Prepare and clear areas for table/tray service Maintain food safety when storing, holding & serving food Prepare Vegetables Cook Vegetables Prepare & Cook Meat& Poultry Prepare & Cook Fish

Method of Assessment

Student`s are continually assessed whilst performing practical activities at a competent level. Each unit is also assessed using computer based knowledge tests.

Course Length

The maximum length of course is 1 year. However many students complete before this and will be given the opportunity to start the next stage of their studies a year early. Please note that students will be expected to attend college one late evening per week on a regular basis as part of their training.
