Course programme
The course will help you develop some of these skills:
NUMBER
• Reading, writing, ordering and comparing positive and negative numbers
• Carrying out calculations with numbers of any size using efficient methods
• Calculating ratio and direct proportion
• Fractions: for comparing, ordering, adding and subtracting amounts and quantities
• Decimals: ordering, comparing, approximating for solving practical problems
• Decimals: adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, rounding
• Percentages: ordering, comparing, writing and ordering
• Finding percentage parts of quantities and measurements
MEASURE SHAPE AND SPACE
• Calculate sums of money and convert between currencies
• Time – calculate, measure and record in different formats
• Reading, estimating and comparing length, distance, weight and capacity using metric and imperial units
• Estimating and measuring temperature, reading scales and conversion tables
• Using given formulae for finding perimeter, volume and area for both regular and irregular shapes
• Working out dimensions from scale drawings
• Recognising 2-D representations of 3-D objects (eg in maps and plans)
HANDLING DATA
• Extracting data from tables, diagrams, charts and line graphs
• Collecting, organising and representing information in tables, diagrams, charts and line graphs
• Finding the mean, median and mode and use them to compare two sets of data
• Finding the range and using it to describe the spread within sets of data
• Identifying the range of possible outcomes of combined events, and recording the information using diagrams or tables
