Course programme

In the AS Further Mathematics course, you will study two applied mathematics units and one unit of pure mathematics. Further Pure 1: This unit comprises pure mathematics techniques. Topics include graphs and inequalities, matrices, algebra, complex numbers, series and proof by induction. Decision 1: This unit includes networks [shortest path and minimum connector problems], linear programming [an optimisation technique], critical path analysis, simulation and algorithms [methods of solving problems]. Mechanics 1: This unit involves understanding motion [velocity and acceleration], forces, Newton’s Laws, vectors and projectiles. In A level Further Maths you will study one Further pure maths module and two applied.
