Is it for me?
History is offered for study at AS level in year 12 or 13 and A2 level in year 13.

What do I need?

What will I study?
The A2 level course consists of 6 modules, 3 of which are completed during the AS level course in year 12, while the remaining three modules will be completed during year 13 to make up the full A2 level. The syllabus includes a range of topics from the following list:

  • Life in the Soviet Union 1928-41
  • Bismarck and Germany 1871-90
  • The State and the Poor in Britain 1830 -1939
Where will I study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.

Assessment
AS level students are assessed by a 3 hour examination at the end of the course. A2 level students are assessed by a 3 hour examination in the January of year 13 and a 3 hour examination at the end of the course

How will I be taught?
You will need to read widely to broaden your knowledge, increase your confidence and improve your essay style. You will be encouraged to make use of the Learning Resource Centre and local libraries. Studying History will improve skills such as essay writing, analysis, synthesis and note taking and will help you develop the confidence to discuss and voice your own opinion. You will be offered opportunities to attend seminars at universities and undertake field visits.

GCSE AS Level / A Level History

What are the career opportunities?
Many go onto university to study History or subjects benefiting from an AS / A2 level in History such as Law. AS / A2 level History has helped many students move into employment in fields as diverse as journalism, law, local government and teaching

Does it include key skills?
All students following full time courses will be expected to develop their skills in English, Maths and ICT.
