If you are aged 16-18 and study on a full-time, further education programme then your course is free.

If you are over 18 then grants and loans may be available to help towards course fees.

Is it for me?
Mathematics is offered for study at AS level in Year 12 leading to a full A2 qualification in Year 13.

What do I need?
AS level requires GCSE Mathematics grade B minimum. An interest in Mathematics and the ability to persevere with problems.

A2 level requires successful completion of AS level Mathematics.

What will I study?
The AS level course consists of 3 modules: Core Mathematics 1, Core Mathematics 2 and Statistics 1. The A level course consists of 6 modules, the 3 AS modules plus 3 additional modules: Core Mathematics 3, Core Mathematics 4 and Statistics 2.

Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.

Assessment
AS level students are assessed by three examinations (one for each module). A2 level students are assessed by a further three examinations (one for each module). Core Mathematics 3 includes a short piece of coursework. The assessment for Core Mathematics 4 includes a timed comprehension passage. Each module examination lasts for 1½ hours.

How will I be taught?
A variety of methods but mainly teacher directed. There is frequent use of the standard course textbooks and specialist software.

What are the career opportunities?
A higher level qualification in Mathematics is a very desirable and worthwhile achievement. Successful mathematicians usually follow career paths that are well paid and have excellent prospects. Accountancy, Physiotherapy, Computer Programming, Engineering, Business Management and Financial Management are just a few of the options available.

Does it include key skills?
All students following full time courses will be expected to develop their skills in English, Maths and ICT.
