Unit 1: The quest for political stability: Germany, 1871-1991
The study of significant historical developments over a period of around 100 years and associated interpretations.
In this section you will study the dramatic changes Germany has gone through, from fledgling nation, through turbulent wars and division, to a modern unified nation.
Unit 2: The making of modern Britain, 1951-2007
The study in depth of a period of major historical change or development and associated primary evidence.
You will study in depth the key political, economic, social and international changes which helped to mound Britain in the second half of the 20th century. It explores concepts such as govenment and opposition, class, social division and cultural change. It encourages students to reflect on Britain's changing place in the world as well as the interrelationship between political policies, economic developments and political survival.
Unit 3: Non Exam assessment: Historical Inquiry
A personal study based on a topic of student's choice. This should take the form of a question in the context of approximately 100 years. It must not duplicate the content of options chosen for Components 1 and 2.
Method of Study
The majority of the study will be in class, with you covering the majority of the syllabus with your tutor. However you will be expected to make sure that you are continuing to complete your own independent study of around 6 hours a week.
Additional information
You will complete a variety of homework both essay and research based, and be expected to read widely. For the course you will complete essays, source analysis and coursework.
