WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
AQA GCSE MATHEMATICS B (Modular) 4307

You will study an interesting and rewarding subject and gain a qualification which is essential for many careers. You can study this course as a single course or combine it with other subjects. Courses starting in September 2009 will be working towards the new two tier qualification, with no coursework.
Individual assessments will take place to determine appropriate starting points. (Higher Tier or Foundation Tier)

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
There are 3 modules as follows:

Module 1 Handling Data (Statistics and Probability)
Module 3 Number and Algebra
Module 5 Further Number, Algebra, Shape, Space and Measures
+
Functional Maths Skills / Adult Numeracy at Level 1/2

You will be assessed as follows:

Module 1 - 2 x 30 Minute Paper - 18%
Module 3 - 2 x 45 Minute Paper - 27%
Module 5 - 2 x 1 hour 15 Minute Papers - 55%

Note: In exams one paper allows the use of a calculator and one paper does not allow the use of a calculator.

Plus:

Functional Skills / Adult Numeracy at Level 1/2 - 1 x 1 hour 15 minute papers.

WHAT ARE MY COMMITMENTS?
You will need to attend classes for 2.5 hours per week on Thursday evening from 6.30 9.00 pm.
In addition, you will need to spend 2 hours per week on course work at home or in college. Additional work is also essential in your own time if you wish to achieve an A*, A or B grade.

3a907-09 Course fees 0 16-18 year olds, 176(19) 19 years and over

WHAT CAN I DO AFTERWARDS?
On successful completion of the course and examinations you can progress onto A Level Mathematics or Vocational A levels. GCSE Mathematics meets the requirements for graduate teacher training.
