Pre-requisites for GCSE Maths:
The main purpose of this course is to achieve a GCSE Maths qualification at Grade C. The new Foundation Level enables students to achieve up to a Grade C. Although there are no precise pre-requirements for the evening course, students are recommended to have achieved a Grade D at GCSE. Mature students will be assessed dependent on their other qualifications, related experience and aptitude. If you have any queries you are welcome to discuss them with the Programme Manager.
Students are encouraged to use the Study Skills Centre where help and support are at hand.
You need to have YOUR OWN scientific calculator for this course.
N.B. Alternative Adult Numeracy qualifications are available through the Skills Development Department.

Course Units The course is divided into the following 3 modules, which may be examined separately at different times of the year: Module Content Assessment Weighting
1 Handling data Examinations: 2 x 30 minutes 18% 3 Number and algebra Examinations: 2 x 45 minutes 27%
5 Number, algebra, space, shape and measurement Examinations: 2 x 75 minutes 55%
Examinations are in the winter, spring and summer. The results of each module are published before the next examination so students are aware of how they are progressing through the course. Students have the opportunity to re-sit modules once during the course. The marks are totalled to give the final grade which is awarded in the summer. A final grade may also be attained in the winter.
