It is offered to full time and part time students, at both the Foundation and Higher Tiers, provided they meet the entry requirements. The Foundation Tier allows the award of grades G to C whereas the Higher Tier allows the award of grades D to A*.The Higher Tier is suitable only for the more mathematically able.

About this course

Full time students need a GCSE Maths grade D or a specified minimum mark in the Initial Assessment Test. Part time students do not have a formal entry requirement but they must have an interview with a Maths tutor who will discuss with them their Maths needs and suggest the most appropriate class.

Course programme

GCSE Mathematics is a qualification that is demanded by many courses and careers. It is offered to full time and part time students, at both the Foundation and Higher Tiers, provided they meet the entry requirements. The Foundation Tier allows the award of grades G to C whereas the Higher Tier allows the award of grades D to A*.The Higher Tier is suitable only for the more mathematically able students.
We offer the following GCSE Maths classes:

·Full time students have GCSE Maths classes timetabled into their main course
·Part time students have the option of attending an evening or a Saturday morning class.

The Foundation Tier classes are held on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6.30pm to 9.00pm at the Paget Road Campus. Monday evening at the Wellington Road Campus or a Tuesday evening at Metro 1 Campus. Saturday morning sessions are at the Paget Road Campus from 9.30am to 12.00pm.
The Higher Tier class is on a Monday evening from 6pm to 9pm at Paget Road Campus

We also offer GCSE Maths revision classes at the Foundation Tier starting in November and January. These are much more intensive and are only suitable for some students

How will I be assessed?
The assessment consists of
Two written papers, a calculator paper and a non calculator paper. Each paper is worth 50% of the total marks. For the Foundation Tier each paper is 1 hour and 30 mins whereas for the Higher Tier each paper is 1 hour and 45 mins long.

What can I do next?
AS Level Maths for students who have achieved at least a grade C at the Higher Tier.
Foundations of Advanced Mathematics (FAM) for students who have achieved a grade C at the Foundation Tier.
Additional costs
Full time students pay no fees but there may be a nominal deposit for a text book.
Part time students - please enquire for fees.
