Course Content:
Coursework: This consists of 4 pieces of work - 3 short assignments and 1 Practical Production with an accompanying written evaluation. The course is based on the study of Media Language. (Colour/Sound/Camerawork/Editing etc.); Institution (Who made the product/Jobs/Rules & Regulations etc.); Audience (Who watches/consumes the product); Representation (How different people/groups/issues etc. are shown in the media/use of Bias/Stereotypes). The work will be based on the different platforms, formats and genres available in the Mass Media today. So, for example, you could be studying a platform from any of Broadcast (TV/Radio/Cinema); Print (Newspapers/Magazines etc.); Electronic (Computer games/the Internet etc.) and within that look at, for example, `Comparing Front Covers of Magazines Aimed at Male & Female Audiences. There is also a 3 hour Controlled Test (end of May) on a set topic for which you will have pre-release materials to prepare from.

You should have an interest in the media i.e. Read newspapers, magazines; Watch TV/Films; Use the Internet!

Progression:
Successful students could go on to study AS Media or BTEC National Media.
