Part Time GCSE Science
Course Description:
The course features many of the major theories of science, presented in a way that will encourage young people to appreciate their significance. Students explore the key science explanations which help us to make sense of our lives.
In order to respond to scientific information presented in the media and everyday situations, it is also important to understand how this information is obtained, how reliable it is, what its limitations are, and how it is used. The GCSE Science course also explores these aspects of science so as to prepare young people to deal with issues such as childhood vaccinations, air quality, and mobile phone safety as they arise.
Future scientists will also benefit from this study of how science works.
Where can this lead me?
The programme is a worthwhile educational experience for all and a suitable preparation for careers which require knowledge of Science. It provides a foundation for further studies in all sciences and related subjects. It is a science qualification for those adults wishing to go on to Higher Education.
Programme Aims
A one-year programme, open to full-time and part-time students during the day or in the evening and based upon the OCR 21st Century Science syllabus, leading to GCSE in Science.
Programme Content
The subject will develop scientific inquiry as well as acquire a systematic body of scientific knowledge, and the skills needed to apply this in new and changing situations; acquire an understanding of scientific ideas and the benefits and drawbacks of scientific and technological developments.
