What's involved?
Human Biology
This unit examines issues around human bodies and how they respond to changes inside them and to their environment, how we can keep our bodies healthy, the use and abuse medical and recreational drugs and the causes of infectious diseases and how can our bodies defend themselves against them.
Evolution and Environment.
Study issues surrounding where particular species live and how many of them there are, why individuals of the same species are different from each other, what new methods we have for producing plants and animals with the characteristics we prefer and why some species of plants and animals no longer exist.
Products from Rocks.
Consider how rocks provide building materials and metals. You will also investigate how we get fuels from crude oil.
Oils, Earth and Atmosphere.
This unit deals with questions about how polymers and ethanol are made from oil, how plant oils are used and the changes in the Earth and its atmosphere?
Energy and Electricity.
This unit deals with the transfer of heat and the factors that affect the rate at which it is transferred. You will also examine the efficient use of energy, why electrical devices are so useful and how we generate the electricity we need.
Radiation and the Universe.
Within this unit you will study the uses and hazards of the waves that form the electromagnetic spectrum and consider the uses and dangers of emissions from radioactive substances.
