Who is this for?
This course is suitable for mature students who need GCSE Core Science for entry to a qualification like teacher training and also for those with a general interest in science who would like an up to date qualification. Higher study, for example AS sciences, may require taking a GCSE Additional Science course.

What Will I Learn?
Core GCSE Science will focus on real-life contexts. It gives grounding in the application of Science for all students, whether they are budding scientists or need an understanding of science in everyday life. The course starts looking at how certain science experiments are carried out and the type of data generated. Each section, Biology, Chemistry and Physics is subdivided into two with the titles:
Biology
Human biology
Evolution and environment
Chemistry
Atoms, metals, rocks and fuel
The Earth, polymers and fats
Physics
Energy and electricity
Waves, radiation and space

There will be practical experiments to help learning in each topic.

Content of the Course
This course is suitable for mature students who need GCSE Science for entry to a qualification like teacher training.
The course, which follows the AQA core science B specification, consists of three subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Assessment consists of 25% practical ISA in one of the subjects taken in March and 75% written examinations in all three subjects taken in June. Students will need to purchase a revision guide and workbook which will cost approximately £5. (Concessions available on this course).

Equipment Needed
Students will need to purchase a revision guide and workbook. You will also need a folder, paper to make notes, graph paper, ruler, pens, pencils and calculator.

Work needed to be Done outside of the Classroom
Homework will be set regularly so access to a computer with internet access will be helpful though not essential.

Assessment Details
Assessment consists of 25% practical ISA in one of the subjects taken in March and 75% written examinations in all three subjects taken in June.

What Next?
Higher study for example, AS sciences, may require taking a GCSE Additional Science course.
