Course programme

A genuine interest in the subject and a rationale for taking the course is a key requirement to enrolling on the GCSE programme. This is important as the course requires a high level of self-motivation to complete homework and prepare for the examinations. Applicants will also be required to take a course entry test, and will need to be working at approximately GCSE grade ‘D’ standard. Since the course is only one year long, 100% attendance is also very important to maximise your chances of achieving the GCSE Science award at the end of the course.

Students may require the Core Science GCSE to study Access Science or enter professions such as teaching where GCSE Science is a prerequisite.

The course is divided up equally amongst the three main Sciences and you will study an exciting range of topics across Biology, Chemistry and Physics and these are listed below. In addition to this you will be expected to complete regular practical work and a controlled practical assessment which will count towards your final grade.

Unit 1: Biology 1

Unit 2: Chemistry 1

Unit 3: Physics 1

Unit 4: Controlled Assessment
