Why study GCSE Psychology?

Do you have a curiosity about phenomena and events in the world? This course adopts a scientific approach to the study of humans and aims to develop and evaluate explanations through scientific methods.

What do I study?

The syllabus covers five key areas. In the cognitive approach you will study topics such as perception, learning and
memory. In the social approach you will explore theories of prejudice and discrimination and look at how we form
impressions of people. Developmental Psychology explores topics such as gender identity where you will explore the
biological differences between females and males, including the involvement of chromosomes and hormones.
You will also study pro and anti social behaviour where theories of aggression, altruism and empathy will be explored. As this is the scientific study of humans you will also need to study methods of investigation, data analysis and ethics. You will be required to carry out and submit a report of one practical investigation.

Where does GCSE Psychology take me?
You may wish to pursue the A-level.
