Course programme

What you need to know
How will I study?

The Higher National Diploma is a 2 year, level 5 course made up of 16 modules and is roughly equivalent to the first two years of a university degree course. At the end of year 1 students complete a Higher National Certificate which is a level 4 course made up of 8 modules. The course includes a full range of engineering skills and technologies including Solid modeling, Design, CAD, Project Management, Electronics and Manufacturing. The course sets these skills and technologies in a context by including different concepts, a substantial work experience opportunity and a project based around the student’s own engineering interest.

How will I be assessed?

Student assessment involves two assignments per module; a mid-module and an end-of-module assignment. The intention is that the mid-module assignment (MMA) will be formative, meaning it will be marked as quickly as possible to give students a clear idea how well they are doing.
