This course is for international students (outside the European Union) who are already registered nurses in their own country with qualifications equivalent to a UK HE diploma. This course has a September and a January intake. The aim of this programme is to prepare students for a dynamic and fast changing health and social care system; which will enable successful graduates to attain a UK nursing degree. It will also help them prepare them to undertake UK Nursing and Midwifery Council registration tests to gain UK nursing registration. Applicants and students must understand the requirement to leave the UK at the end of the course and that there is no guarantee of later obtaining a UK work visa from overseas or to that effect.

Applicants should hold the equivalent of a UK Higher Education Diploma in General Nursing qualification.
Applicants must be a registered nurse in home country with a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience.
Applicants whose first language is not English, should have an IELTS of 6.5 overall, with no component lower than 5.5.

This course is for international students (outside the European Union) who are already registered nurses in their own country with qualifications equivalent to a UK HE diploma.

This course has a September and a January intake.

The aim of this programme is to prepare students for a dynamic and fast changing health and social care system, which will enable successful graduates to attain a UK nursing degree. It will also help them prepare them to undertake UK Nursing and Midwifery Council registration tests to gain UK nursing registration.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

This is focussed on UK practice within the adult field of practice.

Includes the module, ‘Competence and Skills for General Nursing’

This module introduces students to the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) domains of practice which are both generic and field specific (Adult Nursing) embracing professional values, communication and interpersonal skills, nursing practice and decision making along with leadership, management and team working.

Helps prepare students who plan to apply for UK Nursing and Midwifery Council registration

This course helps to prepare students for the UK NMC registration test providing both theoretical knowledge and skills based practice in preparation for UK registration.

Students join existing UK undergraduate nursing students at year 3

This course gives the opportunity to study alongside third year UK nursing students providing opportunities for engagement with future UK healthcare professionals.

Most of the modules are taught with resident students (see above)

Visits to Health and Clinical institutions

This course gives students opportunities to visit a number of healthcare institutions close to the university providing a unique opportunity to view the daily workings of a professional clinical workplace.

Amounts to 120 level three academic credits

These credits can be used to progress to Masters study including MSC Nursing or MSc Health Studies.

Progression to Master’s degree is possible

HOW WILL THIS COURSE BE TAUGHT?

This course is taught through a variety of innovative and effective teaching methods that are used across all modules, including lead lectures, workshops and seminars.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

You will be assessed using a variety of methods, including essay based assessments, multiple choice question examinations and practically based examinations, the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE’s).

TEACHING CONTACT HOURS

There will be on average 14 contact hours per week.
