Year 1 Compulsory modules:

• Human Geography: Space and Place in a Changing World
• Introduction to Geographical Research (BA)
• Physical Geography.

Optional modules:

• Choose two optional modules from: Environment and Society
• Geographies of Crisis
• Understanding Earth’s Challenges
• Module(s) offered by another department, subject to approval.

Year 2 Compulsory modules:

• Social Research in Geography (includes compulsory residential fieldwork in the UK)
• Theory and Concepts in Contemporary Human Geography.

These form the required foundation for your Dissertation in the third year.

Optional modules:

• Environmental Processes and Governance
• Geographies of Development
• Political Geography
• Social and Cultural Geography
• Urban Geography
• Economic Geography
• Climate Change: Geographical Perspectives

• Dissertation (individual Research Project).

Year 4

This additional fourth year will provide an innovative, research-led programme of study which allows students to develop advanced knowledge and practical skills at the frontiers of human geography. Building on the first three years of the undergraduate programme, the MArts (Geog) will allow students to design and manage innovative Research Projects in collaboration with academic staff as well as enhancing the suite of transferable skills to improve all round employability.

• Using Geographical Skills and Techniques.

Students choose one of the following Research Project modules which makes up half of the required credits:

• Research Project
• Collaborative Research Project.
