Your Course
This is a course for those with some proficiency in German who wish to practise their spoken German at a more sustained level.
The course employs a communicative approach and aims to focus on developing the skills of listening and speaking in German as a foreign language. It enables students to understand and use German effectively for puroposes of practical communication, to show an understanding of German grammar and to offer considerable insights into the culture of German speaking countries. Reading and writing are treated as more passive skills.
Learning Outcomes
Each week we will use the following themes as a focus:
· Arbeit und Freizeilt
· Familie & Beziehungen
· Feste & Feiern
· Essen und Trinken
· Der deutsche Film
· Reisen
· Gesellschaft (M?nner & Frauen)
· Rhetorik (eine Rede halten)
· Wissenschaft und Forschung (von Aspirin bis Einstein)
· Psychologie (Siegmund Freud und die Psychoanalyse)
By the end of this course you will have had the opportunity to:
· Discuss and respond in German to these issues at your optimum level
· Manipulate the language accurately and choose appropriate structures
· Develop confidence in both expression and vocabulary
· Work on original texts for home study
· Gain further insights into specific cultural aspects of German speaking countries
Your Tutor
Susanne Eckermann is a native speaker. She studied German, French and English literature and linguistics to Masters level in England, France and Germany (Rostock). She completed a Post- Masters level PGCE in Leipzig. She has taught and examined at A-level and beyond, in higher education, and has gained ten years of teaching experience. Susanne is specialised in teaching foreign languages for business and has been an examiner for the Chamber of Commerce and Industry for several years.
Day and time: Wednesday 7-9 pm

Tuition fees: £95
Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.
