Introduction:
Our Adult Continuing Education (ACE) programmes are short leisure courses. They are ideal if you want to learn new skills, pursue an interest, have fun, and find out more about a particular subject without the stress of exams. This course aims to enable you to cope with everyday situations such as introductions, shopping, buying food and drink, ordering in restaurants, and booking accommodation etc.
ACE courses are funded by Lancashire Adult Learning.
Study Mode & Location:
This 20 week part-time evening course will last for 2 hours per week. It will be held at Preston College, Park Campus, Moor Park Avenue, Preston, PR1 6AP.
Course Content:
This course is for beginners or those with a little knowledge of German. Using pratical and up-to-the-minute course materials relating to German, the course will cover reading, writing, listening and oral skills. The basics of German grammar will also be taught, with the textbook `Themen neu 1` forming the basis of the course. Additional material will be provided. Topics studied on the course will include:
- Introducing yourself and giving further information about yourself.
- Ordering in a restaurant; food, drink and shopping.
- Travelling in Germany.
- Leisure activities.
- Finding your way in a German town/city.
- Accommodation and furniture.
Assessment:
There is no formal examination for this subject so a variety of assessment methods will be used.
Careers & Progression Opportunities:
This course can serve as a basis for starting or returning to more formal language courses, such as GCSEs. Alternatively, it can lead to other ACE courses or to OCNW (Open College of the North West) START or A unit courses.
Additional Costs:
You will need a copy of the textbook `Themen neu 1`. The workbook `Themen neu 1` which accompanies the textbook, is optional.

You can enrol on any of our ACE (Adult Continuing Education) courses by phone or in person. Simply phone or call into the Preston College Advice Centre. We accept SOLO and major credit cards (eg Access, Visa, Switch, Delta) EXCEPT American Express. Many courses have limited places so please enquire as soon as possible.

Depending upon your circumstances, you may be able to study an ACE course at a reduced price. For more details, contact the Preston College Advice Centre.
