About the Course
You will learn how to ask for and understand directions, get something to eat and drink, buy food and stamps, get tourist information, book into a hotel and talk a little about yourself and your interests. You will learn to read menus, brochures and timetables and to write short messages. We will use mainly BBC materials suitable for adult learners - books, CDs, audio and video cassettes and the BBC languages website.
The emphasis will be on communication, with plenty of speaking and listening activities.
Course Aims
To equip you with the basic language needed in a variety of situations on a visit to Germany or another German speaking country.
What are the entry requirements?
How is the course assessed?
There are six informal speaking assessments,carried out at intervals throughout the course. The aim is to complete the tasks successfully, allowing for minor errors. Listening and reading are assessed through a number of different tasks, eight for listening and six for reading. The aim is to achieve at least 80% accuracy here. Writing is assessed through six short tasks. Both communication and quality of language are assessed.
There is no end-of-course exam. All students will do the speaking and listening assessments. Those who feel able to do so, will do the reading and writing assessments as well.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
