The subject makes a good combination with Sociology and Economics. It also supports Media Studies and Law.

What is the course about?
Government and Politics has as its subject the whole process of how an elected government works. You will learn about undertaking research, gain a deeper understanding of governments and find out more about careers in politics.

AS Level - Year 1
The first year provides an overview of the British political process. You will study how and why people participate in politics, and the ways in which the UK government works.

Unit 1: People, Politics and Participation
Looks at the way we elect our political representatives, what they do and alternative ways of expressing opinions other than through parties.

Unit 2: Governing Modern Britain
Examines the British Constitution, the role of functions of parliament, the Prime Minister and the devolved assemblies including the European Union.
