Government & Politics AS and A2



Government and Politics is available as a stand alone AS taken over 1 year or a full A2 taken over two years.

This subject will go well with A Level Law, Critical Thinking, History and Citizenship. Students must have the standard entry requirements as well as a grade C in English GCSE. The learning will be mainly classroom based. However, students will have a chance to visit the Houses of Parliament in their AS Year as well as having the opportunity to meet with their local MP. In the A2 year students will be given the opportunity to visit Washington DC in the US to see first hand the White House and Supreme Court.

COURSE CONTENT
AS outline
At AS, students will develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the political system of the UK. The specification concentrates on People, Participation and Politics as well as Governing Modern Britain, retaining much of the content from the current specification. The AS specification has 2 units: Unit 1: People, Politics and Participation

Assessment
Written Paper: 1 hour 30 minutes (January Exam) Weighting: 50% of total AS (25% of total A Level marks) Students must answer two questions from a choice of four. Each question consists of three parts worth 5, 10 and 25 marks. Total marks available = 80.
