You will be encouraged to investigate, experience and enjoy the many aspects of graphic design through a range of challenging assignments. Although all of your design projects are studio based you will be encouraged to obtain inspiration from many outside influences.

About this course

Standard AS/A level entry requirements of five GCSEs at grade A*-C apply.
In addition it would be an advantage if you have achieved grade B or above in Art and English. At interview you will need to show a portfolio of your work, displaying your drawing skills and design awareness.
Plus a minimum APS Score: 39

Aim This course provides you with the opportunity to develop the skills needed for a career in the design industry. You will be encouraged to investigate, experience and enjoy the many aspects of graphic design through a range of challenging assignments. Although all of your design projects are studio based you will be encouraged to obtain inspiration from many outside influences.
Content During the course you will:
· Develop your ability in the use of the many different drawing and visualising/illustration media
· Develop a working knowledge of computer design programs using the Apple Mac suite (year 2)
· Develop personal folders of work based on your strengths, abilities and interests
· Develop your knowledge and skills in typography, illustration, logo design, colour and media, layout, packaging, advertising and promotion plus the study of design history.

Year 1 - AS level
1. Course work portfolio including a range of creative and written projects
2. One external 5 hour controlled test (exam).

Year 2 - A level
3. One extended personal study
4. One external 15 hour controlled exam plus 1
coursework folder.

Progression/career opportunities
The successful completion of this course will allow students to progress on to a range of Higher Education courses or to enter a career in the creative industries.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
