Course programme
You’ll respond to a variety of challenging projects, within a professional context, to put your skills in practice and create work that stands out from the crowd. Through group and one-to-one discussions, you'll learn how to evaluate work and strengthen your expertise. You will build your practice further, building confidence in your approach whilst responding to projects with a client focus. With guidance from a practicing design professional, you'll be encouraged to push your concepts further and take risks to develop a personal voice and style. References to the world of art, design and visual communication will provide you with clear guidance to help your projects, as your ideas develop. An off-site field trip or talk from an in industry speaker will also be included to inform your research. You’ll use simple drawing and rough work as a means to generate and express ideas quickly. You’ll also be encouraged to experiment with photography, collage and illustration in the process. Computer use is optional on this course. No tuition in software is given; however, you will be advised about design software, and which programs would be appropriate to finalise ideas. Lateral thinking and the creation of a portfolio of design work are the goal. The pace and workload will require commitment. To receive the maximum benefit from the course, where possible, students should allow time to work on their projects between classes.
