Who is this course for?
People who want to learn the Basic Skills in Processes and Graphic Media that underpin the practice of Graphic Design.
What previous knowledge/experience are required?
No prior qualification is necessary but some experience in the use of Digital and/or Graphic Media (Drawing, Photoshop, Print etc.) would be useful.
What is the level of the course?
Levels 1 - 3 are available. Students should be capable of achieving level 3 by the completion of the course.
What will the course cover and what can I expect to do by the end of it?
You will learn the fundamental processes of Graphic Design : developing ideas from research, choosing and using the appropriate Media and producing an end product that communicates the relevant message.
What teaching and learning methods will be used on the course?
Smartboard demonstrations, 1 to 1 support, handouts, individual and group tasks and project work supported by verbal and written feedback.
How will we assess your progress on the course?
By means of reviews of workin progress and discussion centred around finished designs.
What type of qualification will passing this course give me?
This course is not externally accredited. A college certificate is available.
What extra study/practice do we expect you to do outside the class?
Students need to commit to making time outside of class to practice, at home or in the college using the Mac and G5 Server facilities. You are able to access your work from the server if you are practicing in the college. You may also take resource materials home if you bring a USB key.
What can I do after completing this course?
Graphic Design term 2 then term 3. Additionally, students can progress to the Access to HE Art & Design course and further art courses that are available at the college.
Are there any other costs?
(e.g. materials, equipment or books I need to buy before or during the course)
Basic materials can be provided, though it can be advantageous to have a small range of your own equipment. (Advice will be given).
